PREM KUMAR, MD, MRCP(UK), FACP

For the past 25 years, Dr. Kumar has served as the Chief of Allergy and Immunology at LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans, LA. In that capacity he has been actively involved in patient care, research, and training the next generation of allergists – all of whom are in active practice throughout the nation.

As a medical researcher, Dr. Kumar’s findings have been instrumental in effecting change throughout industry.  For example, his study of mold contamination within automobile air conditioner systems led to a grant from General Motors Corporation, resulting in industry wide implementation of air conditioner filtration systems in automobiles.  As a physician, Dr. Kumar has noted all too frequently how patients are prescribed countless medications, often at great medical and financial costs.  This led him to publish “Too Many Pills – Stories of Deaths, Illnesses and Higher Cost,” in 2002, detailing the adverse effects of over medicating patients.  Since its publication, he has lectured extensively on this topic.

Even with such accomplishments, Dr. Kumar’s specialty expertise rests in the care of patients suffering from allergy, asthma, and immunologic disorders. With an approach to medical care that is reliant on traditional history taking and a thorough physical exam, Dr. Kumar is able to effectively manage patient’s symptoms with a combination of both medical and in-office therapy.

Not all patients presenting to GNO Snoring and Sinus with sinus and allergy problems are candidates for in-office procedures, as their pathology is a result of underlying allergy. Such a distinction is crucial to providing good patient outcomes. By incorporating Dr. Kumar, a board certified allergist and immunologist, into the treatment team at GNO Snoring and Sinus, patients have access to the full complement of treatment options provided by both an ENT Surgeon (Dr. Anand) and an Allergist (Dr. Kumar).
